Veterinarian

Job Description

Are you a new veterinary graduate or someone looking to make a change in your scope of veterinary practice? Do you enjoy a challenge, and the opportunity to learn and grow as a clinician? Do you appreciate collaborative medicine, constructive feedback and encouragement to develop confidence working independently? An internship may be just the right experience for you. This is a year of skill, knowledge and confidence building which will be valuable no matter which direction your veterinary degree takes you.
The Veterinary Specialty Centre of NL (“VSCNL”) located at 860 Topsail Road in Mount Pearl is hiring full-time Small Animal Rotating Interns for a minimum of one-year with the potential to extend to a full time permanent position. VSCNL is Newfoundland and Labrador’s only veterinary specialty referral centre and 24-hour full service emergency clinic. It is the 2019 CVMA Practice of the Year Award recipient. We have a board certified surgeon and radiologist, a CT scanner, offer chemotherapy, run a canine blood donor program and have an ICU that is fully staffed 24 hours a day. When it comes to diagnosing and treating the pets of Newfoundland and Labrador, there is nothing we won’t do!
Our focus is on excellent patient and client care, and promoting a team approach with opportunities for both professional and personal growth. The position will allow successful candidates to rotate through the services provided at our hospital with the opportunity for out-rotations as well. Interns will work with staff veterinarians diagnose diseases or abnormal conditions in animals, treat sick or injured animals, perform routine and emergency examinations, provide euthanasia services, and supervise animal health technologists and care workers with the support of our full time staff veterinarians. Opportunities exist within our hospital to gain many clinical and technical skills in a supportive environment.
Applicants must be eligible for full or conditional licensure in Newfoundland and must be able to conduct veterinary services in English. Please see the Newfoundland College of Veterinarians website for details regarding licensure. Benefits include health, dental, CE allowance, paid professional dues, and a matching RRSP and pet insurance program. Salary will range from $45,000 to $50,000 and will be negotiated based on experience. Shifts will vary depending on the rotation in which the candidate is participating. Applicants must speak English and this position is for full-time, indefinite employment.
